Learn how to twine - a wonderfully relaxing, calming experience - to create a durable, one-of-a-kind rug, a beautiful addition to any room in your house. A fun and easy introductory class for beginners (16 and up).
The ancient technique of twining is used in basket-making and weaving world-wide. Over a century ago twining began to be used to weave rugs. Twined rugs are made on upright frames, and resemble braided rugs.
We will meet for 4 consecutive Saturdays, with the weeks in between for you to twine at home.
The cost for the class is $55, plus $100 deposit for use of the loom ($90 refundable). In addition, you can purchase the warp from the instructor for $25, or you can make your own (the instructor will contact you for directions). Both the loom deposit and warp cost will be paid directly to the instructor at time of class.
You will need to supply the material to weave. You can use fabric from your stash, or up-cycled, thrifted fabric - wonderfully sustainable!
On the first Saturday, April 30th, you will learn how to warp your loom, how to join fabric strips, and how to twine (from 10-Noon). After twining for 2 weeks at home, the class will meet again for the next 3 Saturdays (5/14, 5/21 & 5/28 from 10-11am) to check on progress, have some social twining time and answer any questions. On the last Saturday (May 28th) you will learn how to finish the rug, and of course to show off your wonderful creation. : ) You will also return the loom to the instructor on meeting day four.
Your instructor Willow has been an avid twiner for many years. A teacher by training, she made it her mission to re-introduce the art of twining to her community.
Only 6 spots in the class. Payment reserves your spot. Go to artisantextilecompany.com, or stop by the shop for payment.
